What's missing here are a few things: How about 1976's Grammy Award-Winning #1 R&B hit, "Sophisticated Lady (She's A Different Lady.") Also, there's no traces of "Party Lights," "Annie Mae," "Stand By," "Someone That I Used to Love," which represented a powerful change in style in 1980 when she would sink her chops into a beautiful and dramatic Michael Masser ballad of lost love or "Jump Start," which actually DID jump start her career after a period of rehab from drug abuse in 1987. If she'd only kick it out again like she used to, perhaps there'd BE a Greatest Hits Vol. 2. I, personally found it to be a let down and rush released to coincide with the accompanying autobiography and movie. Greatest Hits Vol.
A definite treat on this CD, however, is the #1 Dance hit (and new song)"Livin' for Love." It's absolutely tight and it's what I would have hoped she'd have done more of throughout much of the 90's. All Jazz. She can do so much better and has obviously decided to stay in a safe zone for unknown reasons. 2. Instead, what we have here are some live 70's cuts (taken from her stellar 1978 live album on Capitol,) some boring filler items from her just as boring "Snowfall on the Sahara" album and SOME key notes from her "Everlasting" and "Good To Be Back" albums which rounded out the 80's. It's affordable and extremely accurate.
1. We KNOW Natalie can scream and holler like the rest and the best of 'em, but for some strange reason, she persists in staying stuck in the Jazz rut that at first was surprising and refreshing. If you want the rest of it, then this would be a good place to start. What will Vol. If you want a REAL hits collection, check out her two-disc Capitol Anthology. Now, it's just tired and uninteresting.
consist of. This is no longer the case.
Loved it. She's just great and any collection of her songs would be off the hook. This one is no exception.
THE CD CAME IN RECORD TIME AND IT HAD ALL THE GREAT MUSIC THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.
Natalie Cole's greatest Hits are really a great CD with many wonderful songs and melodies.
A Little Bit of Heaven (from a now unobtainable cd Dangerous) is my all time fave of hers. This is a good cd for all Natalie fans - and even if you aren't - because there is a good mix of older and newer material. I like this cd a lot. In the mean time, I still love Miss You Like Crazy etc. I give it a four because of the mix, but minus one star because of the missing hit. Natalie sure has had a lot of great songs over the years. One song in particular (which of course as luck would have it) is missing from here.
